Dog Page!

On this page you can see pictures of and read all about my dogs. I currently  have two dogs Fraser and Blue Fog. There are some pictures and stories of the dogs that I have had in the past up here as well. Fraser is my favorite dog out of all of them. Can't you tell?

Fraser

Fraser has to be the luckiest dog in the whole world. He has two homes with a room all to himself in each one with a basket full of toys, a soft bed, a bowl full of dog food and an automatic water bowl that serves him filtered water all day long in his rooms. His room at his Grandma's house is painted light brown. His room at his mommy's house is painted bright yellow. He has lots of travel gear. He has two plastic bowls for food and water, an insulated water bottle to hold cool water, a pet taxi, and a doggie bed. He loves to ride in the back of his mommy's SUV where he has lots of room for play. His full name is Fraser Stephens.

Fraser is so bad I decided to dress him as a little devil for Halloween. Fraser dressed as a devil for Halloween 2007. I had his costume made. It took 2 people 10 minutes to put it on him and we took some pictures. It took him about 5 seconds to get it off.

Here is Fraser as a puppy when I first bought him. He is sitting in front of his pet crate. He slept in it and stayed in it when we were away from home for a few hours. He was fairly easy to potty train since he spent lots of time in his crate as a puppy.

Here is Fraser standing on the gate in the den. He smells the food in the kitchen and he is wanting some so bad. He thinks that if he whines and begs he will be let in the kitchen to eat with us. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't.

Fraser getting help from grandma opening one of his Christmas gifts - a personalized doggie bag! He opened some gifts I bought for him at my house on Christmas Eve 2007.

Santa Claus came and brought some toys to Fraser at Grandma's house. He got lots of stuff. Here he is chewing on a fire hydrant, one of many gifts he received for Christmas. He had more fun chewing on the paper than he did playing with his gifts.

Fraser enjoying a good Southern lunch: peas, rice, corn, steak, and biscuits. Mmm Yum! He licked the plate clean. All we had to wash out of the plate was puppy.

Destructive Fraser! He loves paper of any kind. He will tear and chew the paper up into little tiny pieces. He did this one morning while I snoozed. I woke up to find this all over the bathroom and bed room. Needless to say I was not happy with him that day. I guess that is what I get for sleeping late.

This is the way Fraser looks during the summer. I have all of his hair shaved off so he will be cooler. Here he is at Grandma's house ready to go on a walk.

Fraser is eating the snow cone ice. He lapped it all up. He loves to eat ice.

Here is Fraser chewing on some wrapping paper that his ball was wrapped in.

Fraser's bag of dog food that Santa had wrapped for him under the tree. Good thing Santa brought this food. A bag this size lasts him about 2 weeks.

I bought this shirt for Fraser to wear when Mom takes him out on his long walks so he will not be cold. Fraser and Mom do just what the shirt says when they go for a walk.

This is how the living room looked after Fraser finished opening his gifts as well as the cats' gifts and tearing all of the wrapping paper out of the trash can.

The computer room became Fraser's room during the month of April when Mom had eye surgery. He had to stay in that room so he would not jump up and scratch her or hurt her eyes.

My mother had to put three different kinds of eye drops in her eyes after her surgery for about two weeks. She had to take a steroid drop, an anti-inflammatory drop, and an antibiotic drop. We left Fraser in the den for about 10 minutes while we went and fetched the mail. When we came back he had all three bottles on the floor and had chewed up the bottle of antibiotic drops. Of course he had to chew up the one that cost $70. Most of the medicine was all over the floor. When it comes to chewing something up or destroying something this dog has expensive taste.

Caught in the chair in the living room! Fraser knows sitting in this chair is a major no no. Sometimes when he thinks no one is looking he will climb up in that chair and sit there a few minutes.

Here is Fraser sniffing and looking at his gifts he received from the Easter bunny on Sunday, April 12, 2009. He received a ball, a cow, a rubbery squeaking chicken, and a shirt that said "If only I could talk". The soft squeaky ball was his favorite gift of all. He about drove me crazy with it wanting me to throw it for him so he could go fetch it.

Here Fraser is wearing one of his shirts. He has lots of shirts. Some day I am going to take a picture of all of his shirts and put it up on this page.

Here is an up close picture of Fraser in the living room wearing his harness.

Fraser opening his gift from the Easter bunny on Easter Sunday 2010. Fraser is a professional gift opener. He can really tear into a package.

Ahh! Look at his gift - a pretty blue glass bowl that says, "Eat, Drink, and be Hairy! Fraser does eat and drink and he certainly is hairy.

Here is Fraser posing for a picture with his groomer Ms. Donna. Fraser goes to Pet Smart to get groomed about every three months. There is only one groomer there who can touch him and groom him. He will growl and snap at the others. When I call I don't ask can they groom a cocker, I have to ask if Donna is working. Whoever answers the phone puts the phone down and screams "Fraser is coming!" every time I call. Fraser is well known in that store due to his aggression and people phobia.

Fraser's 4th Birthday Celebration!

This is the cake that I had Publix make for his birthday. It was a shaggy dog cake. They did a great job. The cake was beautiful.

Fraser wait!!! Fraser started licking a piece while we were still making pictures and singing "Happy Birthday".

All of Fraser's gifts he received at his party.

All of the gifts after Fraser opened them. He sure did get a pile of gifts.

Brutus

On this page you will find the story and pictures about Brutus, my 12 year old Labrador Retriever. He has been through his share of things during his lifetime. He has done many fun, exciting things and he has had many injuries and surgeries along the way. He lives in an animal condominium in the back yard. He has a sleeping area, eating area, play area, and he even has a swimming pool on one end. He loves to play fetch and go on dog chases. He loves to go hunting when he can get a chance. Brutus has a deep bark and he will bark anytime he hears someone coming up into the yard or someone who he does not know. He is a good watch dog.

Here is a picture of me holding Brutus in my lap when he was a puppy. He was a big puppy.

Woooo Brutus! You don't walk Brutus, he walks you. He takes you where he wants to go.

Brutus loves to play fetch. He will even jump up and catch the pine cone or whatever it is you throw for him. He is a good catcher.

Brutus loves being petted and scratched. He loves to snuggle with you and climb all over you. He will sometimes give kisses. He will also shake your hand. All you have to do  is say "Shake" and he will hold his front right paw up for you to shake it.

Brutus eating a Thanksgiving Feast! He loves to eat. Table scraps are his favorite.

Brutus is going into the water to look for a ball. He loves to fetch and swim. We would throw things in the water for him to go in, find them, and swim out with them. He loved a water hole.

Brutus found the ball and he is swimming out with it. He was a good swimmer.

Brutus on the back on the truck ready to ride. Brutus loved doing this. He could jump over the back and load himself. He would ride on the back when we would take him on dog chases around DuPont late at night. The dogs around the town would come out and run the truck and Brutus would growl, snap, and bark at them. We would wake the whole town up. Before long everyone would hear a bunch of dogs barking and say here comes Jimmy, Amy, and Brutus.

Garrison - one of Brutus' descendents

Garrison's Baby Picture! He was one of Brutus and Peaches' puppies that we kept. Garrison lived to be four years old. He was hit by a truck on the road in front of our house. Garrison was so hyper and playful. He loved to roll around and play in mud and dirty water.

Garrison graduating from obedience school on July 9, 2002. He received a diploma. I had it framed and hung it on the wall in my bedroom.

This is a picture of Garrison that was made on his first birthday in January 2003. He was a beautiful dog.

Brutus' 12th Birthday Party, December 29, 2007.

Here is Brutus looking at his cake and licking his lips. He was ready for a piece. It was hard holding him down until we could sing "Happy Birthday" and get the candles blown out.

This is a picture of the cake I had Publix to make for Brutus' 12th birthday. Written on the cake is "Happy Birthday Brutus You've Made it to 12!". The cake had 12 candles on it.

Brutus gifts! He received a ramp to help him get in and out of my SUV easier. He received a seat cover to sit on when he rides in the SUV so he will not coat the seat in thick yellow dog hair.

His party was complete with helium filled balloons and decorations. At the end of the party we tied the balloons to his collar and his walked around the yard with them.

Dog Guests at the Party

Polichinelle

Fraser At the party Fraser decided he would turn the table over with the cake on it. Luckily everyone, dogs and humans, had already be served a piece of cake. Fraser ate the rest of it.

Brutus' Death

Brutus lived to be 12 and a half years old. He died in his sleep early Sunday Morning on July 21, 2008. We had him cremated and we have his remains in a walnut finished box with his name. birthday and death date on it sitting on the bookshelf in the den. He spent ,most of his time his last year living in the den laying on the cool floor.

Below  is the letter Mom wrote to Brutus when he died. The original copy of the letter is placed inside the box of his remains.

Seeing this old ragged straw broom with a wooden handle on Mrs. Ragan's bus brought back the memories of Brutus chewing up a broom each Saturday at the chicken house. We had a wooden broom that we used to sweep the area where we picked up eggs at. Brutus would go in there and pick the broom up with his mouth and tote it out by the handle. He would get on the side of the chicken house so no one could see him and lay in the sun and chew up the broom. He would chew the handle up some but his favorite part was pulling out the straws one by one and slinging them around. Needless to say when we finished picking up eggs we had a nice mess to clean up before we could go home. We purchased one broom per week. No matter where we put the broom Brutus would manage to find it and get it.

Polichinelle is a Rottweiler who has been living with our family now for four and a half years. She came wondering in the yard in December of 2003 and was determined she was going to stay. I started calling her Baby because she was so sweet and loving. She will climb in your lap and give you a nice big puppy slurp. In April of 2004 we decided to officially adopt her. So I changed her name to Polichinelle. I named her after the little dolls that dance with Mother Ginger in the Nutcracker. She is a good watch dog and is very protective of her owners, our other dogs, the house, the yard, and anything in or around the yard. Below are some pictures of her.

Polichinelle guarding the garage. We hired some men to clean out the garage and she felt she had  to sit by the door and watch to make sure they were doing what they were supposed to do and were not  taking anything away.

This cake is pretty good! Polichinelle was eating a cake. She decided the best way to eat it was by getting it all over her face and head. She ate the whole thing all by herself.

Polichinelle looking at Brutus. She just wants her share too. She is so jealous. She thinks she is to get all of the attention and no one else is.

Polichinelle posing for a picture with Dr. Richards. I made this picture in July 2008 when she was getting ready to leave the Animal Health Center. She had to get a heartworm treatment. I forgot a month of her Heart Guard sometime during the winter. Please do not forget to give your pets their heartworm medicine. Give it to them year round. All it takes is just one month for them to get heartworms.

Poli smelled so bad the day she got her second heartworm treatment she was given a free bath! Everyone who worked on her said she had bad odor. It was so bad they had to wash her before they could complete her treatment. Maybe I need to take her smelling bad to the vet every time so they will give her a bath.

Here Polichinelle is lying in the back seat of my SUV.  When she gets in it she does a good job of coating it in black dog hair.

Polichinelle lying by her Christmas present in 2008. She opened it herself with very little help.

Here Polichinelle is eating a milk bone that she received for Christmas.

We had Polichinelle spayed in the spring of 2004 and she likes to show off her scar. You can say, "Roll over Let's see your scar" and she will roll over for you to see it.

Vet Visit!

Polichinelle had to go to the vet during the week I was out for spring break 2009. She was sick and did not feel very well. I always accompany my pets for their check ups. This time I decided to take pictures. After the examination I found out I had a dirt eater.

Here Poli is being weighed by Dr. Richards.

Dr. Richards put Polichinelle on the exam table and she gave him a nice big slurp on the nose.

Here is Polichinelle on the table waiting for her doctor to return.

Poli had to have a rectal exam done to see what was wrong with her. During the exam Dr. Richards pulled out lots of dirt and put it in a dish and mixed it will some solution. It was weird seeing the dirt separate from everything else. So they found her problem: she had dirt in her stomach and intestines. Poli is a dirt eater. Why would she eat dirt when she has big pan of table scraps sitting beside her at all times?

They decided to x-ray her to see how much dirt she had in her and where all it was located. She had dirt packed in her stomach and her intestines. She did not need surgery. Dr. Richards just told me to go the store and buy some mineral oil and pour some over her food once a day every day. The mineral oil would loosen the dirt and lubricate her inside. So that's what I did and it worked. In just a few days she was feeling and doing much better. I was relieved and blessed knowing that she did not have cancer or a blockage in her intestines. I could not stand to part with her just yet.

Uncle Charles petting Polichinelle in the parking lot of the vet's office. Poli is sitting on the pink blanket. That blanket is used by both humans and pets when we get sick. Who ever is sick lays on the pink blanket until they get well. The pink blanket was special because that was the one Puppy Taylor and Brutus were lying on when they died. We had to take her to the vet because she could not stand up. She couldn't even hold her head up. Dr. Richards checked her and found she had vertigo. You mean dogs can actually get that too? They could not give her any medicine for it so she lay around the house for about a week. She felt so bad. We had to hand feed  her food. (Uncle Charles is the one who I call when ever I had a dog need or emergency. He helps me with all of the dogs.)

Dog Food Spill!

Pedigree spilled all in the back seat of the car. The bag ripped. What a mess!

Mama is picking up the busted bag of dog food trying to hold the sack where the hole is.

Here Mama is picking the dog food up and putting it in a bag. Well that was our excitement for that day on our traditional Saturday shopping trip to Valdosta.

Gingerette

Gingerette was a stray that we took in January 2010. She was a bird dog mix. She was considered a mixed breed. I named her Gingerette after the dolls that danced with Mother Ginger in the Nutcracker. The studio where I used to take dancing used to call the dolls gingerettes. When she came to us she had been attacked by a wild animal and had to have surgery done on her neck to repair it. She was very destructive. She retrieved everything in the neighborhood to our front yard and chewed it up. She was a sweet loving dog. We called her G'rette for short. Unfortunately our mean nasty neighbors killed Gingerette and Polichinelle. How can someone be so mean and cruel to kill good loving innocent animals?

Here is Gingerette in the front yard with her bright pink harness on.

Miss Gingerette brought a deer head up to the front yard for us. She did this the day after she was spayed. Hello! Wouldn't she be in pain and not be able to do things like this, especially bringing something that big up to the yard a day after major surgery? Apparently not.

Gingerette is sitting in the back of my SUV. She is looking out of the window and waiting for Mom to return with the sausage.

Gingerette is in a room at the Animal Health Center waiting for the doctor and his assistant to come in and take the stitches out. Her ears are perked up because she hears other dogs outside the door. If you look closely you can see the scar on her neck from when she was attacked.

Gingerette getting her stitches removed by Dr. Richards. She did not mind it one bit.

The best  part of all is being served cheese afterwards. When the pets go the vet at the end of their visit they get a squirt of cheese for a treat. They look forward to that.

Blue Fog

Blue Fog is a blue tick hound dog that I adopted from the Lake City Animal Shelter. I wanted him because he is a blue tick and those dogs are known for their howling. When he howls he sounds like a foghorn. They nick named him Ole Blue Foghorn at the animal shelter. His original name was Blue so I decided to rename him Blue Fog. He has long droopy ears and a big snout.

Here is Blue Fog in the back of my SUV riding home from the Animal Shelter.

Here is Blue Fog howling on the way home from the animal shelter. He howled all the way to the house. He can definitely howl and when he does he certainly does sound like a fog horn.

Here is Uncle Charles calling everybody he knew to tell them that we are bringing back a blue tick.

Here is Blue Fog at the vet's office the next day. You can see a side view of him. He was poor when I first adopted him but now he is getting fat. He eats a lot. He eats a big bowl full of dog food every day as well as table scraps anytime he can get them.

Dog Egg Hunt 2010

Every year at Easter I get some plastic eggs and put some dog treats in them. We hide the eggs for the dogs. We let the dogs out and let them hunt the eggs. Each dog has his or her own basket complete with grass in it. We hide the eggs and then let the dogs out to go find the eggs. The dogs run to the eggs because they can smell the treats inside. The dogs will pick up the eggs with their mouths and either bring it to one of us to open it and feed them the treat or they will open the eggs themselves. Since the eggs only stay on the ground just a few minutes ants don't really get in them and with treats inside the eggs the dogs smell them and find them quickly. We are watching the dogs closely so they will not chew the eggs up or swallow them. I have very few eggs that are damaged or lost in the dog egg hunt. I use tiny moist dog treats and put one in each egg. We usually hide 3-4 dozen for the dogs every year. The dogs eat the treats as they find the eggs.

Here are all three personalized baskets filled with eggs ready to be hid.

Here is Gingerette sitting by her basket in her pen. She was excited and  ready to go egg hunting.

Fraser sitting on the love seat in the den by the door. He looked all happy about the egg hunt.

Polichinelle is laying by her basket guarding it and smiling for the camera.

Here are all three dogs lying on the grass by their buckets. They took a break from hunting eggs and eating dog treats.
