Celebrating Groundhog Day!

Some students are drawing groundhogs. We read books about groundhogs and find out some interesting information on Groundhog Day and what it means. We learned that if the groundhog sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter. But if he does not spring is on the way! After reading the books and talking about groundhogs the students all drew pretty groundhogs. I hung them up around the classroom.

Here a student looks up from his drawing and smiles for the camera. He drew a beautiful groundhog and he seemed to enjoy drawing it.
Valentine's Day Decorating!

The bulletin board right outside my room decorated in pink fabric, double boarder, and a heart shaped tree surrounded by hearts. I love this bulletin board set. Not only because it is pink but it is so pretty to look at. Valentine's Day is one of my favorite days to decorate for and celebrate.
Valentine's Day Celebration

Mrs. Ragan is putting some Valentines and gifts into our gift bags taped across the bottom of the board.

The students are coloring some pretty hearts. The students colored lots of Valentine sheets that morning.

Here I am reading the book Valentine's Day Is... to the students. This book tells the traditions and customs associated with Valentine's Day.

Here the room is decorated for our Valentine's Day party all decorated in dark pink and light pink, my favorite colors.

Here is a student eating a piece of pizza. We had pizza from Pizza Hut and soda for lunch. We ate lunch in our room.

Here is a table of students eating sugar cookies, cup cakes, and chips for dessert. Yummy!

Mrs. Williamson is pouring soda for some students. We invited her to the party also.
Dog Breath!
I love the book Dog Breath and I can't wait to read it to my students every year. I can hardly read the book for laughing. The students all think the book is so funny and they ask me to read to them again and again. We did a little activity that went along well with the book.

Here I am reading the book Dog Breath! to the class.

Here are some students coloring the dog, fish, and fish bowl and cutting them out. I helped them glue their pictures onto yellow construction paper.

Here are the Dog Breath pictures hanging on the line on the back wall in the classroom. Once I had all of the pictures glued on the paper the students took a green marker and drew the bad smelling breath coming out of the dog's mouth.
Learning About the 4 Seasons
In science and math the students had to learn about the four seasons, the characteristics of each season, what takes place during each season, and what the weather is like during each season. I bought the seasonal windows bulletin board set, some colored paper, some border to match each season, and four foam boards. I wrapped the paper around each board kind of like wrapping a gift. I laminated the bulletin board kit and the borders. I used rubber cement to glue the borders and windows on each poster. I left some space on each side of the windows so I could put write what takes place during each season. I put thick white construction paper up with clear push ins so the marker would not bleed through to the paper. The unit lasted five days. I done it during math time. We discussed each season and picture on the seasonal poster, and I wrote down what the students said about the seasons. I put them out in the hallway for a little while and I kept them on display in the room a few day. I will reuse them next year. I will just remove the white construction paper and put new one on them next year. The boards were so pretty but they did take up lots of space in the room. I will wrap them in large black trash bags so they won't get messed up and store them until next year. Maybe I have some closet space at home to store them in.
