Polichinelle

Polichinelle is a Rottweiler who has been living with our family now for four and a half years. She came wondering in the yard in December of 2003 and was determined she was going to stay. I started calling her Baby because she was so sweet and loving. She will climb in your lap and give you a nice big puppy slurp. In April of 2004 we decided to officially adopt her. So I changed her name to Polichinelle. I named her after the little dolls that dance with Mother Ginger in the Nutcracker. She is a good watch dog and is very protective of her owners, our other dogs, the house, the yard, and anything in or around the yard. Below are some pictures of her.

Polichineelle guarding the garage. We hired some men to clean out the garage and she felt she had  to sit by the door and watch to make sure they were doing what they were supposed to do and were not  taking anything away.

This cake is pretty good! Polichinelle was eating a cake. She decided the best way to eat it was by getting it all over her face and head. She ate the whole thing all by herself.

Polichinelle looking at Brutus. She just wants her share too. She is so jealous. She thinks she is to get all of the attention and no one else is.

Polichinelle posing for a picture with Dr. Richards. I made this picture in July 2008 when she was getting ready to leave the Animal Health Center. She had to get a heartworm treatment. I forgot a month of her Heart Guard sometime during the winter. Please do not forget to give your pets their heartworm medicine. Give it to them year round. All it takes is just one month for them to get heartworms.

Poli smelled so bad the day she got her second heartworm treatment she was given a free bath! Everyone who worked on her said she had bad odor. It was so bad they had to wash her before they could complete her treatment. Maybe I need to take her smelling bad to the vet every time so they will give her a bath.

Here Polichinelle is lying in the back seat of my SUV.  When she gets in it she does a good job of coating it in black dog hair.

Polichinelle lying by her Christmas present in 2008. She opened it herself with very little help.

Here Polichinelle is eating a milk bone that she received for Christmas.

We had Polichinelle spayed in the spring of 2004 and she likes to show off her scar. You can say, "Roll over Let's see your scar" and she will roll over for you to see it.

Vet Visit!

Polichinelle had to go to the vet during the week I was out for spring break 2009. She was sick and did not feel very well. I always accompany my pets for their check ups. This time I decided to take pictures. After the examination I found out I had a dirt eater.

Here Poli is being weighed by Dr. Richards.

Dr. Richards put polichinelle on the exam table and she gave him a nice slurp on the nose.

Here is Polichinelle on the table waiting for her doctor to return.

Poli had to have a rectal exam done to see what was wrong with her. During the exam Dr. Richards pulled out lots of dirt and put it in a dish and mixed it will some solution. It was weird seeing the dirt separate from everything else. So they found her problem: she had dirt in her stomach and intestines. Poli is a dirt eater. Why would she eat dirt when she has big pan of table scraps sitting beside her at all times?

They decided to x-ray her to see how much dirt she had in her and where all it was located. She had dirt packed in her stomach and her intestines. She did not need surgery. Dr. Richards just told me to go the store and buy some mineral oil and pour some over her food once a day every day. The mineral oil would loosen the dirt and lubricate her inside. So that's what I did and it worked. In just a few days she was feeling and doing much better. I was relieved and blessed knowing that she did not have cancer or a blockage in her intestines. I could not stand to part with her just yet.
