September

By the month of September we are all pretty well on routine and schedule. We have learned the classroom rules and are having a good time learning. Below are some pictures of some of the things we did in September.
Here we are in the computer lab. We are fortunate for every student to be able to visit the computer lab at least 3 days per week. At the computer lab students learn reading, spelling, phonics, the alphabet and some math skills on the computers. The students spend lots of time on the site www.starfall.com. They also visit my web page and click on some of the links on it. The students learn so much on the computers and enjoy going to the computer lab.
Here is the two homecoming representatives from our class. Each class chooses a boy and a girl to participate in the homecoming ceremony each year by drawing names. We had Shedrick and Aanijah representing our class. Aren't they beautiful all dressed up?
Reading Tubs! In the pictures below the students are working in their groups at each table doing reading tubs. I love to create and do reading tubs in my classroom. The students learn literacy skills through doing hands-on activities. The students look forward to reading tub time each day. We spend 15 minutes per day doing them. On Monday I explain all of the tubs and what I expect the students to do and learn at each one. The students work in the tubs Tuesday - Friday each week. We call them reading tubs because the activities are placed in plastic tubs with lids. Bless the person who invented tubs!
This table is practicing writing the upper and lower case letters in write on wipe off books with vis-à-vis markers.
These students are reciting the letters of the alphabet and the story Chicka Chicka Boom Boom as they place plastic letters up and down the coconut trees.
The students at this table are making -at words using plastic letters. As they make the words they write them on handwriting paper. So not only are they reviewing the -an word family and practicing spelling they are also practicing how to write neatly on lines.
These students are saying and writing the yellow list sight words on dry erase boards. The students think it is neat to write on the board and they are learning how to read and spell their sight words all at the same time!
Keep checking back each month for more fun educational literacy activities to do during reading tubs.
Ms. Grimmett is helping Mrs. Ragan learn how to use the computer. I just had to put this up here on the web site. The students have to show Mrs. Ragan how to use the computers when they go to the computer lab.
The first nine weeks in science the students learn how to sort objects by physical properties. Here the students are circles by color.
We did a fun activity where we put things in water to see if they floated or sank. The students colored in a yes/no graph with crayons and we discussed the results afterwards.
Here the students whose birthdays were in the months of July, August, and September are standing in front of a cake with their names on it. We have a big celebration each month for all of the students who have birthdays that month. I combined July, August, and September months this year due to such a busy schedule.
Here all of the students are devouring the cake, chips, and sodas! We ate all of the food. It was so tasty.
